Event case study
WOMAD Festival
WOMAD is an annual world music festival located in the Wiltshire countryside. Founded by Peter Gabriel in the 1980s, it's one of the longest-running festivals in the UK. It has since expanded globally, hosting festivals in 27 different countries. I contributed to the 2022 and 2023 festivals by enhancing their video marketing for the vast range of non-music-related activities and programming that the festival offers each year.
The brief provided was to produce six very different videos for separate elements of the festival; the food, what’s on offer for children, the festival’s inclusivity, the nightlife, the festival’s ‘luxury’ options and the ‘Hidden Gems’ at WOMAD. The client also requested different aspect ratios for the videos, with some being shot in portrait and others landscape.
— “George was so easy to work with, and did an impressive job with a very wide-ranging brief. He was efficient and really listened to our brief and we love the videos he’s made us!”
The videos were also needed to be stylistically varied, with some (Arboretum, Inclusivity) to include interview with festival staff and punters, and others (Food, Nightlife) to be more montage-based and stylised. Working alone and with only 4 days to film, this was a considerable challenge, so the shoot was planned meticulously.
The videos were a success and are currently in use by the festival for their marketing ahead of the next edition of the festival.
